Ombudsman for Children’s Office launches Irish Language Scheme 2017-2020
- 14 Iúil 2017
- Cineál: Preaseisiúint
The Ombudsman for Children’s Office (OCO) has today (14 July) formally launched its first Irish Language Scheme, which will begin the process of providing Irish language services to the public over the next three years.
The scheme has been developed to integrate the Irish language into the work of the Office and to widen the services available to the public through Irish. This scheme was developed in accordance with the Official Languages Act 2003.
The OCO is an independent organisation which falls under a number of public service obligations. The Act requires public bodies to outline the measures to be adopted and to set out a clear timeline of delivery.
Commenting on the scheme, the Ombudsman for Children, Dr Niall Muldoon said:
“For some time the OCO has been providing much of our materials in Irish. However, I am delighted to now have a clear pathway towards improving the accessibility of the Office to those who want to access services through Irish.
“Since signing up to the Irish Language Scheme in January we have already made a number of changes across the Office, with more progress expected by the end of the year.
“I am delighted to be formally launching the OCO Irish Language Scheme today. This is the first step for the OCO, and while we are a small team with limited resources, we look forward to proactively delivering on the commitments we have made in the Scheme.”
The OCO’s Irish Language Scheme 2017-2020 is available here.

Seolann Oifig an Ombudsman do Leanaí Scéim Gaeilge 2017-2020
Sheol Oifig an Ombudsman do Leanaí (OOL) a chéad Scéim Gaeilge inniu (an 14 Iúil) go foirmiúil, a chuirfidh tús leis an bpróiseas ina soláthrófar seirbhísí Gaeilge don phobal sna chéad trí bliana amach romhainn.
Forbraíodh an scéim chun an Ghaeilge a chomhcheangal isteach in obair na hOifige agus chun na seirbhísí atá ar fáil don phobal trí Ghaeilge a fhairsingiú. Forbraíodh an scéim seo i gcomhréir le hAcht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla, 2003.
Eagraíocht neamhspleách is ea OOL a thagann faoi chuimsiú roinnt oibleagáidí seirbhíse poiblí. Ceanglaítear san Acht ar chomhlachtaí poiblí chun cuntas a thabhairt ar bhearta lena nglacfar agus chun amlíne shoiléir a leagan amach lena soláthar.
Agus é ag trácht ar an scéim, dúirt an tOmbudsman do Leanaí, an Dr Niall Muldoon:
“Le fada an lá, bhí go leor dár n-ábhair á soláthar i nGaeilge ag an OOL. Tá ríméid orm, áfach, go bhfuil conair shoiléir anois ann i dtreo feabhas a chur ar inrochtaineacht na hOifige dóibh siúd ar mian leo teacht a bheith acu ar sheirbhísí trí Ghaeilge.
“Ó chláraíomar leis an Scéim Gaeilge in Eanáir, tá roinnt athruithe déanta againn cheana féin ar fud na hOifige, agus táthar ag súil le dul chun cinn breise a dhéanamh faoi dheireadh na bliana.
“Tá gliondar croí orm Scéim Gaeilge OOL a bheith á seoladh go foirmiúil agam inniu. Seo an chéad chéim don OOL, agus cé gur foireann bheag sinn a bhfuil acmhainní teoranta againn, táimid ag tnúth le tabhairt faoi na gealltanais a rinneamar sa Scéim go réamhghníomhach.”
Tá Scéim Gaeilge OOL 2017-2020 ar fáil anseo.
