6th class children from St. Brigid’s Girls National School in Glasnevin visited the Ombudsman for Children’s Office recently to take part in the OCO’s human rights education programme.

This programme is undertaken as part of the Ombudsman for Children’s statutory obligation to raise awareness of children’s rights and welfare among the public, including children and young people themselves.

During their visit to the OCO, the children from St Brigid’s had an opportunity to learn about the Offices’ role and work and to explore connections between children’s rights and their daily lives.

The programme is a valuable opportunity for the Office to meet students and their teachers and to hear directly from children and young people about issues of concern them.

During their visit, the children from St Brigid’s raised and discussed a number of issues relating to children’s rights, including access to clean water, the importance of children being able to express themselves freely, respecting diversity and valuing the uniqueness of every person.
