Comment from the Ombudsman for Children, Dr Niall Muldoon on Leaving Certificate 2022:
“It is disappointing that some form of hybrid solution could not be found for the 2022 Leaving Certificate examination. The decision to go ahead with the traditional Leaving Certificate format will be a very difficult one for the many students who feel they will not be able to show their full potential because of the time they have missed this year due to Covid isolation, teacher absences and lack of substitute teachers.
“While today’s announcement provides certainty, and I welcome that, it is really important now that schools are informed of the specific changes being made to each subject straight away. It is vital too that such information is passed on to the students as quickly as possible, especially as many schools are about to commence their “mock” exams next week.
“Now that a decision has finally been made regarding the format of this year’s exams it is crucial that, from now on, all students are given every resource and support they need in preparation for the Leaving and Junior Certificates.”
